Today Venezuela will be today’s home team. The Dutch team starts the game at bat. However Venezuela made quick work of the Dutch offense. Venezuelan pitcher Linibeth Aguilarte retired the first three batters of the Netherlands. Aguilarte allowed one walk, but got out of the inning on a double play.

The Netherlands’ pitchers Maaike Haak and Marijke van Veen both were unable to get out of the first inning. Venezuela was able to score 15 runs, the Dutch allowed six hits, threw six base on balls and one hit by pitch before reliever Berber Jansen took over. Meanwhile Venezuela was sitting at a comfortable score of 16-0 after the first.

In the second inning the Dutch, again were unsuccessful to score any runs. As a fly-out, a strike-out and a fielder’s choice was plenty to conclude the top of the second inning.

Dutch pitcher Berber Jansen was able to hold the Venezuelan team at bay. Venezuela only scored once in the second inning. Venezuela hit three singles and was able to score on a walk for the 17th Venezuelan point. Two fly-outs and a tag made by third base Famke Gildemacher were enough to stop Venezuela in their tracks.

Inger Wieringa opened the inning, she struck out swinging. The second batter, Jessica Kroeskop hit a hard ground ball to the right side of the field. Unfortunately she was forced out in a double play (6-4-3).

Pitcher Berber Jansen continued where she left off, as she only allowed two hits in the bottom of the third. The Venezuelan team was unable to utilize these hits, as this was the first inning that Venezuelan team did not score.

In the top of the fourth, the Dutch reached base twice. A walk and a single made sure the Netherlands had two runners on base. A balk (quick pitch) by Aguilarte made sure the runners got to second and third. Unfortunately the third out was made before the Netherlands were able to score.

Berber Jansen, was throwing phenomenally, again she did not allow the Venezuelan team to score. Left fielder Winke Verdick caught the a pop-fly for the first out. The second batter got on base due to a throwing error made by the Dutch’s short stop. A hard groundball towards third allowed Berber Jansen to get out of the inning in a 1-2-3 fashion. As the third basewomen, Famke Gildemacher threw it to second for the double play (5-4-3).

In the top of the fifth, the Dutch were able to put the first run on the board. Dutch right fielder reached base on an error. Got to second on another balk (quick pitch), a single by Inger Wieringa allowed Filius to take third.

First basewomen Jessica Kroeskop hit the single that finally placed the first run on the board. A Venezuelan double play ended the inning, 4-6-3. The final score, 17-1 Venezuela.
